Red Oak Restorative Playground

More than a collection of plants, this therapeutic landscape is an act of empowerment. The Restorative Playground invites movement, touch, and reflection as it helps survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation reconnect with their bodies, building self-awareness, resilience, and the ability to self-soothe. It is a space that quietly says, “You can do it.”

Serving a dual purpose, it is both a sanctuary for healing and a commons for conversation, where relationship and community can deepen. The design blends new and reclaimed materials, rejecting the common building method of starting with a clean slate. Like the people it serves, the garden honors its scars and stories, proving that beauty and wholeness can emerge from what already exists.
